Tasks in the test planning phase include:
• Identifying and reviewing the
project (on a high level), including
existing documentation
• Application walk-through (human, web, and/or hardcopy)
• Reviewing use cases and/or requirements
• Developing a risk assessment plan
• Determining test strategies for each test type selected
• Determining which test tools and testing utilities will be needed
• Determining applicability of manual vs. automated testing for
selected test strategies
• Establishing the scope of the project
• Identifying and evaluating human resources available for project
• Defining the test architecture requirements
• Performing automation tool(s) installation and configuration
• Conducting a gap analysis of available vs. needed skill set
• Developing a training plan to address needs
• Developing a high-level project plan with estimates of testing
resources, costs and timeline
• Delivering this information in a formal test plan
